⇒ a person (thing etc) has been noticed by s.o., brought to the attention of s.o. etc, and usu. is the object of his ongoing interest, attention, plans etc:

- у Y-а есть на примете один (такой и т. п.) X - Y has an (a certain, one) X in mind;

- Y has his eye on an X (a certain X, one X (that...) etc);

- Y knows of an (one etc) X;

- there's this one (acertain) X who(m) (that) Y has his eye on (who (that)...);

|| (этот) X у Y-а давно на примете{{}}≈ Y has had an (his) eye on (this <that>) X for (quite) some time (for quite a while (now) etc).

     ♦ [Отрадина:] А не разбогатею, так, может быть, и без приданого добрый человек возьмет. Как ты думаешь? У меня такой есть на примете (Островский 3). [О.:] Well, if I don't get rich perhaps some good man will have me anyway. Don't you think he might? I have acertain person in mind (3a).

     ♦ "ВТашкент махнём... Там у меня есть кой-чего на примете" (Максимов 2). "We'll go to Tashkent. Got my eye on a job there" (2a).

     ♦ Несколько раз, со слезами на глазах, графиня говорила сыну, что теперь... её единственное желание состоит в том, чтобы видеть его женатым... Потом говорила, что у неё есть прекрасная девушка на примете, и выпытывала его мнение о женитьбе (Толстой 5). Several times the countess, with tears in her eyes, told her son that now...her only wish was to see him married. ...Then she told him she knew of a splendid girl, and tried to discover what he thought about marriage (5b).

     ♦ "За Фоминым будем смотреть, он у нас давно на примете, только едва ли и Фомин отважится на выступление" (Шолохов 5). "We'll watch Fomin, we've had an eye on him for some time, but I shouldn't think even Fomin would risk any action" (5a).
